In the vast expanse of traditional Chinese medicine, there is a brilliant star, and that is the renowned master Zhu Lianchun.
Throughout his life, Dr. Zhu dedicated himself to the field of traditional Chinese medicine, renowned for his exceptional skills and high moral standards. More importantly, he had a profound understanding and unwavering commitment to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. He repeatedly emphasized, "To revitalize traditional Chinese medicine, we must return to its roots, adhere to its principles, and rely on the classics as our guide." These words are not only his heartfelt expression of devotion to the field but also his earnest expectations for future generations.
Mr. Zhu Liangchun is well aware that the essence of traditional Chinese medicine lies in the principle of differential diagnosis and treatment; he has discussed the significance of this principle on multiple occasions and highly appraised the academic value of the “four diagnostic methods”, especially the methods of observation and pulse diagnosis; he believes that the diagnostic methods of traditional Chinese medicine are its unique advantages and the key to treating complex diseases.
I still remember a time when Zhu, while sharing his experience in treating "hemochromatosis," spoke passionately as if he had returned to that challenging yet promising diagnostic scene. He said, "In my 70 years of medical practice, I have only encountered these two cases. I initially did not recognize this disease; one was caused by deficiency of yang energy in spleen and kidneys, while the other was caused by deficiency of yin energy in liver and kidneys. Although the syndromes were different, they were all cured through syndrome differentiation and treatment. This statement not only reflects his confidence in his medical skills but also his unwavering belief in the concept of syndrome differentiation and treatment in traditional Chinese medicine. His practice demonstrates that syndrome differentiation and treatment are the primary and absolute methods in traditional Chinese medicine, while disease diagnosis serves merely as a reference. Such unwavering commitment to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine is truly admirable.
Mr. Zhu Lianchun not only pays close attention to the principle of differential treatment but also highly values the use of compound prescriptions and formula prescriptions. He believes that the compound prescriptions in traditional Chinese medicine are a unique treatment method and a crucial tool that allows TCM to treat complex diseases. He often says, "The compound prescriptions in TCM are like a complex barbecue recipe, where each ingredient needs to be processed separately before being combined to achieve the best therapeutic effect." This profound understanding and unique insight into compound prescriptions enable him to handle and cure even the most difficult cases with ease.
At the same time, Mr. Zhu Lianchun has his own unique insights on pulse diagnosis. He believes that pulse diagnosis is a crucial part of the four diagnostic methods in traditional Chinese medicine, and it is an important means for traditional Chinese medicine practitioners to gain insights into the changes in the internal organs and qi-blood of the human body. He often says, "Pulse diagnosis is like a key that can unlock the secrets of the internal organs and qi-blood in the human body." With his masterful skills in pulse diagnosis, he is always able to accurately diagnose patients'' conditions and causes, providing solid evidence for treatment.
While adhering to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, Mr. Zhu Lianchun has not been inflexible. He is well aware that for the development of traditional Chinese medicine, it must be integrated with modern scientific technologies. Therefore, he has proposed the concept that "the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine should be a combination of inheritance, development, infiltration, and innovation." He believes that traditional Chinese medicine should maintain its original foundation and clinical application characteristics while fully absorbing and utilizing the achievements of modern scientific technologies, including the results of related natural sciences, humanities, and other disciplines, in order to achieve innovation.
Mr. Zhu Lianchun''s unwavering commitment to and innovative approach to traditional Chinese medicine have made him a prominent figure in the field, embodying what it means to truly be a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine and exemplifying the true spirit of traditional Chinese medicine.
