Prevent the premature death of resident doctors: don''t let life be "buried" by the system
In the seemingly sacred field of medicine, there is a hidden current that is heartbreaking - the sudden death of young resident doctors at an early age. Recently, a post about the sudden death of young doctors, like a sharp surgical knife, precisely opened up the hidden pain under the bright appearance of the medical industry.
"The excellence you have gained by depleting your health is nothing more than a few lines of Song typeface that can be replaced at any time in the file. And the gears of the unit have never stopped moving for a moment." These words, each one cutting to the heart, reveal the helplessness and sorrow of resident doctors. They are like machines with springs, working day and night, moving between the ward and the operating room. For the so-called "excellence," for a place in the title evaluation and career promotion, they are willing to sacrifice their health. However, in the grand narrative of the hospital, they are just insignificant "screws." When one day, this "screw" breaks due to excessive wear, the hospital will quickly replace it with a new one and continue to operate.
There is a real example: a young resident doctor who had just started working a few years ago, in order to make a name for himself in the department, took on a lot of work tasks on his own initiative. He often worked for dozens of hours in a row, and when he was tired, he would take a nap on his desk. When he was hungry, he would just eat some instant noodles. The long-term fatigue and pressure took a heavy toll on his body. Finally, on a normal night, he collapsed on the job and never woke up again. His file may have a few more lines of commendations for his hard work, but can these words replace his young life? Can they compensate for the pain of his parents losing their son? Can they compensate for the unfulfilled dreams of his life?
“Life is not measured by red documents, but by the moments of seeing flowers bloom and hearing the sound of rain.” Resident doctors are also human beings, they have their own lives, their own dreams and pursuits. They also want to spend leisure time with their families for a warm dinner, watch a movie with friends, take a walk under the sunset, and feel the beauty of nature. However, reality makes them unable to care about these things. The nights they stay up, the efforts they make, and the tears they shed, all end up as blank A4 paper, while the missed sunsets, the dinner they missed, and the hands they didn’t hold are the main text of life that can never be recorded.
What is even more heartbreaking is that when we habitually use the moral halo of "white-clothed angels" to cover up the shortcomings of the doctor''s personnel system, and use the noble narrative of "doctors with benevolent hearts" to dissolve the doctor''s professional security, this situation, which has been going on for years, will eventually be reflected in patients in another way. A doctor who has been in a state of fatigue and stress for a long time will inevitably affect the quality of medical care. They may make mistakes in diagnosis and errors in surgery, thereby causing irreparable harm to patients. This is like a vicious circle, where doctors use their own life depletion to exchange for patients'' health, but ultimately, due to their own health problems, they are unable to provide high-quality medical services for patients.
Let''s take a look at the medical system in other countries. In some developed countries, doctors have strict working hours, and they have sufficient rest time to recover their physical and mental energy. At the same time, hospitals also provide doctors with perfect professional guarantees and psychological support, so that they can work in a healthy and harmonious environment. Such a system not only guarantees the physical and mental health of doctors, but also improves the quality of medical services. Compared with this, our medical system still has many shortcomings.
"In the end, only you are the first person responsible for your own life!" This sentence is both a warning to resident doctors and an appeal to the whole society. Resident doctors, you should know how to take care of your own body and not overextend your health for the so-called "excellence." At the same time, hospitals and society should also take on their corresponding responsibilities, reform the doctor employment system, improve the professional security system, and create a good working environment for doctors.
We cannot let the sudden death of resident doctors at an early age become the norm in the medical industry, nor can we let young lives be "buried" for the shortcomings of the system. Let us work together to prevent the sudden death of resident doctors at a young age and allow every doctor to have a healthy and happy life while saving lives. Because only when doctors are healthy can patients receive better treatment, and our society can be more harmonious and beautiful.
